Gloria Zash (Agnew)

Following is a note we received from Gloria's husband, Jim: ...

"Gloria wanted to make it to this reunion. It was a factor in her trying to hang in and fight. Her enemy was tougher and a whole lot meaner. If you think of it, try to remember her to the class of '58. Again, thank you for your kind words. Jim Agnew P.S. Tell Brody she asked for him."

Hello Jim I always thought of Gloria as a beautiful younger Elizabeth Taylor. I know she was a cheerleader at Engle Street JHS. I wonder why she was not a cheerleader for us at DMHS. I considered her a friend and a wonderful, intelligent classmate. She had a warm smile and all who knew her will miss her.

Dear Jimmy,
I was so sorry to hear about Gloria's passing. As you know, Gloria, you, my brother Freddie and my sister Esther (your classmate), and I, all go way back. You and the Burke kids lived across the street from us on Hirliman Rd and Gloria and Tony lived around the corner on Green St. Remember the days of stick ball and running bases? Of course, you and Esther being older (DMHS Class of 1951) were the "big kids" who we all looked up to.

Gloria and I played together and she was a sweetheart from the word go. I still remember playing "jacks" with her on my front porch and being fascinated by the fact that her parents spoke Spanish (that was really exotic to me). She and I were always best buds.

You and Gloria were meant for each other and I was so happy to see you both at your 50th reunion. I'm so glad that I decided to go with my sister. It was wonderful to see you both although Gloria knew then that she had a battle on her hands.

I hope that you see this and get in touch with me. Esther still lives in Columbus but she mislaid your contact information. I will tell her about Gloria.

Take care of yourself Jimmy. I'll always remember Gloria, one of the sweetest people I ever knew. I know how deeply you feel her loss because I recently lost my wonderful husband Andres last year. We have to be content with great memories.

Be well,
Florence Perren Diaz
