Doris and I go way back to elementary school, girl scouts, church youth group, etc. I remember when she got polio, and I wonder if any of you remember the TAP ("Teens Against Polio") campaign. We had placards on a string which we attached to our pocketbooks, bookbags, or even our shirt buttons, and collected money for polio research. Guess it worked! Miss you, Doris....
When Doris got polio in the summer between 7th & 8th grade, we were all stunned. Doris was so active--this was something that happened to others. Her determination was gallant. She played all the sports she could in high school and the limp be damned. What an inspiration to us all!!
